Despite its gloomiest depths and abominable creatures, Dark and Darker amplifies the idea of resurrecting fallen comrades as a crucial part of its internal gameplay mechanics.

The Soul Heart in Dark and Darker is what you need to bring your ally back from the dead. What makes it a key aspect of the game is the procedure for using the Soul Heart. Here’s everything about it.

What is Soul Heart in Dark and Darker?

The Soul Heart is the heart of your fallen teammate. It is a collectible item that takes 4 slots in your bag. It’s the human heart in Dark and Darker. You have it too.

What does the Soul Heart do?

There’s only one utility to the Soul Heart which is categorized only as an item of utility and nothing more.

Soul Hearts can be used to revive a dead character provided that the character in question was your ally and not a hostile or an enemy.

However, Soul Hearts are only items, and you need an object for interaction to complete the resurrection.

This is why you’ll also need an Altar of Sacrifice to use the Soul Heart.

How to Get the Soul Heart of Your Ally

Since the Soul Heart is an item, you can simply take it from your fallen ally and that’s the best thing you can do since dead characters are not revived with their loot. So, you should collect all possible items from your ally’s inventory instead of letting an enemy do it.

You can do just that for your ally’s Soul Heart but to get it, you need to remove your ally’s chest piece to get to the Soul Heart and then collect it. Make sure you have at least 4 slots available for the Soul Heart in your bag.

How to Use the Soul Heart in Dark and Darker 

This is the hardest part.

After you’ve collected the Soul Heart, you need to find an Altar of Sacrifice. These are sparsely populated across dungeons and finding one is not that hard at all.

Once you do find an altar, look for campers. This is your first time using the Soul Heart and I’d rather spare the surprise.

Also, it’s better that you have your team or at least one ally with you. Why?

Resurrection on an altar using the Soul Heart will take time and penalizes any movement or action. So, you’ll need someone to watch your back.

To add on, successfully completing the revival will bring back your ally character but the character will have a minimum health. It’s vital that you carry a couple of health potions, bandages, or a surgical kit (or Troll’s Blood).

Soul Heart Alternative

If you or any of your ally characters are Clerics, you won’t need to collect the Soul Heart and go through all this trouble to revive a fallen teammate. Out of all classes in Dark and Darker, Clerics can revive dead characters. 

Using the Soul Heart in Dark and Darker on an Altar of Sacrifice is the only way to revive your allies. Better to have at least 2 allies watching your back while you resurrect your comrade. Best to have a Cleric class character in the team!
