Controversial influencer Andrew Tate, known for his hyper-masculine content, has had his house arrest extended for another 30 days by a Romanian court.
Tate was first arrested alongside his brother, Tristan, at their Bucharest home in December 2022 on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.
The brothers and two Romanian associates were detained, and while they were moved from custody to house arrest on 31 March, the charges against them remain unclear.
Latest extension of house arrest
The latest extension to Andrew Tate’s house arrest means he and his brother cannot leave their homes before 29 May.
Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu, the two Romanian associates, were also moved from prison detention into house arrest on 31 March and were ordered to stay in their buildings unless they had judicial permission to leave.
It is unclear whether the other associates also had their house arrest extended on Friday.
Appeal and statement
Tate, a former kickboxer, has millions of followers online. He and his brother deny all of the allegations against them.
In a statement following his release from prison earlier this month, Tate said, “I have no resentment in my heart for the country of Romania over anybody else, I just believe in the truth. I believe in god and I think that the fire of the truth will destroy all lies and anybody who lies over a long enough time frame will feel regret.”
Tate had appealed the court’s decision to extend the group’s incarceration by another 30 days and was released after that decision was overturned by the Court of Appeal in Bucharest.
Tate’s tweet an hour before he was due to appear in court on human trafficking charges read, “Court in an hour. I trust god because he knows best. Maybe I need more hell. Send me to jail.”
Investigation ongoing
Tate has gained notoriety this year for his inflammatory and misogynistic views on women, including videos where he has said that women should “shut the fk up, have kids, sit at home, be quiet and make coffee,” that women are men’s “property,” and that “18-year-old women are “more attractive than 25-year-olds because they’ve been through less d*.”
He has even gone as far to say that rape victims should “bear responsibility” for their attacks.
As the investigation into the allegations against Tate and his associates continues, the influencer remains under house arrest.
The Romanian authorities have not yet brought charges against the group, but the investigation into the alleged crimes of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women is ongoing.
Tate’s latest extension of house arrest will keep him confined to his home until at least the end of May.
