We’re in 2022 now and having a 60Hz monitor is still considered a sin in modern gaming. We’ve had some amazing titles over the last few years and all of them deserved to be played on 144Hz monitors at higher resolutions.

But to enjoy gaming at 1440p on a 144Hz monitor, you’ll definitely need a heavy graphics card to play games at this resolution. Some people find it really hard to pick the right GPU but we’re here to help.

We’ve hand-picked some of the best 1440p graphics cards that will easily handle hard-core gaming on a 144Hz monitor with maximum fps.

Best Graphics Card For 1440P Gaming

    1. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super

    Overkill

    Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super is an absolute beast that can handle extreme gaming with the highest fps possible. The mighty GeForce RTX 2080 offers 8GB GDDR6 video memory and a base clock of 1,650MHz which can be overclocked to your desired frequency using MSI Afterburner.

GeForce RTX 2080 Super is one of the highest-rated graphics cards for all the latest games and this bad boy can outperform almost any graphics cards in the market except the RTX 2080Ti, of course.

One of the biggest perks of RTX 2080 Super is that it is future proof and will stay relevant for the next 3 to 4 years.

Ideally, RTX 2080 is suited for gaming on a 4K monitor but if you’re planning to play games at 1440p resolution on a 144Hz monitor then RTX 2080 S is the best option out there.

However, this might not be the cheapest option, you’ll need to spend a large chunk of money to get your hands on this one. But, RTX 2080 is worth every penny and you will not regret buying this graphics card.

Hands down, RTX 2080 Super is the best graphics card for 1440P 144Hz gaming and I’m sure that no one will argue on that.

    Tech Specs

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 8GB GDDR6
    • Base Core Clock – 1,650MHz
    • Memory Interface – 256-bit
    • Cude Cores – 3072
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 2 x 8pins

    Pros

    • Ray-tracing
    • Can get 100fps+ on ultra-setting in all games
    • Very fast at 3D rendering
    • Future Proof

    Cons

    • Very expensive
    • Does not fit in mini-atx cases

    2. Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super

Best Graphics Card for 1440p Gaming

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super Best Graphics Card For 1440P

If you’re looking for something to fit into your high-end build to play games at 1440p resolution then GeForce RTX 2070 Super is the most suitable option in the market.

It offers 8 gigs of GDDR6 memory and a core clock of 1,845MHz which is more than enough for modern games. Most of the latest games need around 4 to 6 gigs of VRAM to run smoothly on a 1080p display with 60+fps.

But for 1440p, games need a bit more to offer than the desired experience and this is where the RTX 2070 Super comes in.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super when backed with a Ryzen or Intel’s 9th-gen chip offers some excellent performance for a relatively fair price. If you’re planning to play games at 1440p on a 144MHz monitor then GeForce 2070 won’t disappoint.

You can easily get 60fps in the latest games and if you tweak the settings even further, you might hit the 100fps milestone as well.

Just like 2080 Super, this one is also future proof and it will easily handle gaming for the next couple of years at the least.

GeForce RTX 2070 Super is priced around $700 and it offers the best bang for the buck and if you’re looking for the best graphics card for 1440p 144Hz gaming then we’d definitely recommend this one.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 8GB GDDR6
    • Base Core Clock – 1,845MHz
    • Memory Interface – 256-bit
    • Cude Cores – 2560
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 6pin+8pin

    Pros

    • Can maintain good fps with RTX on
    • Definitely future proof
    • Fairly priced
    • Temps remains around 60-75c

    Cons

    • Coil makes a lot of noise

    3. AMD Radeon 5700XT

    Best value for Money

    AMD Radeon 5700XT

AMD Radeon 5700XT is another excellent choice for 1440p gaming on 144Hz display. AMD is not famous for manufacturing graphics cards that can handle 4K and 2K gaming but Radeon 5700XT is definitely an exception.

This graphics card offers almost the same specs as GeForce RTX 2070 Super and the performance is also quite similar. AMD Radeon 5700XT features 8GB DDR6 VRAM and a base core clock of 2035MHz.

Radeon 5700XT can be overclocked and we’d definitely recommend it especially when you’re playing games on a 144Hz display.

There are many vendors selling the AMD Radeon 5700XT but we’d recommend going through with Asus because their cards are far superior in quality than other vendors.

XFX is also offering Radeon 5700XT at around $420 but there are some heating issues while the graphics card from Asus doesn’t have such issues.

Moving on, Radeon 5700XT coupled with Ryzen 7 chip will go a very long way and if you want to play games on 144Hz display at 2K settings then Radeon 5700XT is among the best 1440p graphics card.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 8GB GDDR6
    • Base Core Clock – 2035MHz
    • Memory Interface – 256-bit
    • Cude Cores – 2560
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 6pin+8pin

    Pros

    • Fairly priced
    • Displays vibrant colors
    • Long-life
    • Can also handle 4K gaming

    Cons

    • Horrible drivers support

    4. GeForce RTX 2060 Super

Best Graphics Card for High-End Builds

    GeForce RTX 2060 Super

GeForce RTX 2060 Super will be our first choice for 1440p 144Hz gaming for 60fps gaming.

For this price tag, you’ll be getting yourself a petty good deal. GeForce RTX 2060 Super might not be as good RTX 2070 Super or 5700XT but this one will also deliver.

GeForce RTX 2060 also features 8 gigs of GDDR6 video memory and a memory interface of 256-bit. The base core clock is 1665MHz which can be overclocked but make sure to have an effective cooling system in place before doing that.

For mid to high tier builds, RTX 2060 Super will be an excellent choice and this one is ideal for 1440p 144Hz gaming on medium to high settings.

However, with RTX on, you won’t be getting the desired 60fps with this thing. Furthermore, GeForce RTX 2060 costs around $400 but you can find some sweet deals on Amazon.

Lastly, RTX 2060 Super can run games on 1440p 144Hz but don’t expect anything above 60fps.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 8GB GDDR6
    • Core Clock – 1665MHz
    • Memory Interface – 256-bit
    • Cude Cores – 2176
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 1x8pin

    Pros

    • A 550w PSU is enough for this card
    • Suitable for High-End PC builds
    • Only 1x8pin connector is needed
    • No overheating issues

    Cons

    • RTX mode is not very ideal
    • Might face some issues with overclocking
    Check Price On Amazon

    5. AMD Radeon 5600XT

    Best Mid-Range 1440p 144Hz Graphics Card

    AMD Radeon 5600XT

Based on Navi 10 graphics processor, AMD Radeon 5600XT is another budget-friendly graphics card from AMD that shows the phenomenal performance when it comes to 1440p 144Hz gaming.

Even the Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060 Super cannot compete with this graphics card and struggles to offer the same performance as Radeon 5600XT.

This graphics card is incredibly powerful and at a very reasonable price. You can get your hands on this beast for just around $300 if you’re going for the brand new version but if you’re looking for used or refurbished one then you can almost get this one for almost $220.

AMD Radeon 5600XT is surely a performer but is it a viable option for 1440p gaming? Absolutely.

Some people might say that 5600XT isn’t ideal for 1440p 144Hz gaming but actually, it is more than you can desire. Radeon 5600XT also offers overclocking ability but then again, you’ll need a very effecting cooling system to keep the temps under 75c.

AMD Radeon 5600XT is without any doubt, one of the best 1440p graphics cards, and we would definitely recommend it to a friend.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 6GB GDDR6
    • Core Clock – 1600MHz
    • Memory Interface – 192-bit
    • Cude Cores – 2304
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 1x8pin

    Pros

    • Very budget-friendly
    • Does not make much noise
    • Less power consumption
    • Impressive performance on 4K

    Cons

    • Inferior build quality
    • Not future proof.
    Check Price On Amazon

    6. Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti

    Blast From The Past

    Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti

We can’t believe that it has been 4 years since the mighty Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti hit the shelves.

GeForce GTX 1080Ti came out in 2016 and it has been ruling the heart of many since then. The mighty 1080Ti is a beast that features 11 gigs of GDDR5X memory and a memory interface of 352-bit.

This beast also offers a clock speed of 1556MHz and it is completely overclockable. To this day, 1080Ti is considered one of the best graphics cards and not many graphics cards out there can compete with this one.

However, 1080Ti is a bit too out-dated at this point. Most of the latest graphics cards are based on the latest architect technology and features GDDR6 memory while 1080Ti is featured with GDDR5X.

Never the less, GTX 1080Ti still outperforms many latest GPUs and shows some phenomenal numbers. The price of 1080Ti has not come down and it is still priced at nearly $700. In this budget, you can get your hands on the latest RTX 2080 Super which is 20% faster than 1080Ti.

In conclusion, if you’re getting a sweet deal on GTX 1080Ti then we’d really recommend it but if you have $700 bucks burning a hole in your pocket then go for RTX 2080 Super instead.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 11GB GDDR5X
    • Base Core Clock – 1556MHz
    • Memory Interface – 352-bit
    • Cude Cores – 3584
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 1x8pin

    Pros

    • Exceptional performance
    • ICX Cooling
    • Very durable and long-life

    Cons

    • Outdated
    • 250w Power Consumption

    7. GeForce GTX 1660 Super Overclocked

    Best For Pre-Built PC

    GeForce GTX 1660 Super Overclocked

If you own a pre-built gaming pc like Dell Optiplex 7010 then GeForce GTX 1660 Super OC is the perfect graphics card for you.

Most of the pre-built PCs come with a power supply of 300w – 350w and not many graphics cards can run on such low power consumption. This is where the 1660 Super OC comes in.

This graphics card is completely compatible with low consumption power supplies. GTX 1660 Super OC is surely a decent graphics card that can handle 1440p 144Hz gaming on high settings with pretty amazing fps.

Moving on, GTX 1660 is not only for pre-builds, but you can also fit this thing in your budget build. GTX 1660 Super OC is quite cheap and if you’re keeping things under $250 then this one is definitely one of the better options out there.

GTX 1660 Super OC has a memory interface of 192 bit and a low count of only 1408 Cuda cores but in this budget, you’re getting a pretty good deal.

Ideally, GTX 1660 Super OC is more fitting for 1080p gaming but it will not disappoint when it comes to 1440p 144Hz gaming.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 6GB GDDR6
    • Base Core Clock – 1400MHz
    • Memory Interface – 192-bit
    • Cuda Cores – 1408
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – Adaptable

    Pros

    • Very low power consumption
    • Budget-friendly
    • Very Quiet
    • Supports DirectX12

    Cons

    • High temps

    8. AMD Radeon RX580

    Best Budget-Friendly Graphics Card

    AMD Radeon RX580

AMD Radeon RX580 is all you need if you’re working on a tight budget. This is AMD’s finest graphics card out there that offers 8GB GDDR5 video memory and an interface of 256-bit.

RX580 is quite famous for offering exceptional performance for a very reasonable price. You can get your hands on this one for about $200 and it is worth every single penny.

Mostly, AMD Radeon 580 is used for 1080p gaming but if you’re thinking about 1440p 144Hz then this graphics card will not disappoint.

It might not be able to compete with the likes of RTX 2060 or 5600XT but this one will get you around 60fps on high settings at 1440p resolution.

In the last few years, AMD Radeon 580 is one of the best selling 1440p graphics card but some people still consider GTX 1060 6GB over this one.

The main reason is that it’s quite hard to find Asus or Sapphire’s version of AMD Radeon 580 because XFX is the main vendor behind the manufacturing of this graphics card.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 8GB GDDR5
    • Base Core Clock – 1366MHz
    • Memory Interface – 256-bit
    • Cuda Cores – 2304
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 1x8pin or 6+2pin

    Pros

    • Budget-Friendly option
    • Low power consumption
    • Does not make much noise

    Cons

    • Minor overheating issues
    • Inferior build quality
    • Not future proof

    9. AMD Radeon RX570

Cheapest Graphics Card for 1440p 144Hz Gaming

    AMD Radeon RX570

There’s not much of a difference between the AMD Radeon RX570 and RX580. Both of them offer the same video memory and memory interface but there’s a marginal difference between their Cuda cores and core clock.

AMD Radeon RX570 comes in different variants but the 8GB variant is the most suitable option for 1440p 144Hz gaming.

It might not be able to produce 60fps on high settings in games like Red Dead Redemptions but this one will definitely offer smooth gameplay in low settings.

The RX570 is the most economical option for 1440p 144Hz gaming but it might not be the best.

You can easily play the latest games on low to medium settings for maximum fps but for the future installments, you’ll definitely need to upgrade your GPU.

In other words, RX570 is not future proof but for this price tag, you’re getting yourself a pretty good deal.

    Specifications

    • Video Memory (VRAM) – 8GB GDDR5
    • Base Core Clock – 1286MHz
    • Memory Interface – 256-bit
    • Cuda Cores – 2048
    • DirectX – 12
    • Power Connectors – 1x8pin or 6+2pin

    Pros

    • Very cheap
    • Offers at least 30fps+ on all games
    • Low power consumption
    • Fast at graphics rendering

    Cons

    • Not future proof
    Check Price On Amazon

    Conclusion

Playing the latest games at 2K resolution on a 144Hz display is really fun but not everyone can tell the difference between a 60Hz and a 144Hz monitor. You’ll need to train your eyes to get the best experience but you’re definitely going to need a decent 1440p graphics card to run all the games smoothly. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we think that these options are one of the best 1440p 144Hz graphics cards that you can find in the market.

Let us know what do you think.

    That’s all folks!
