Mount and Blade is a strategy game set in the medieval era, and you’re the dauntless knight who aims to conquer all enemy armies and secure the kingdom.

The Mount and Blade series has remained quite popular with gamers mostly because of its fun gameplay.

However, there are other games like Mount and Blade we think you’d love just as much.

Top 10 Games like Mount and Blade Warband

Our list of top 10 games similar to Mount and Blade includes both games with roughly equal or better intrigues than what you get on Mount and Blade Warband.

We’ve played a bit through every one of them and we also preferred a few over M&B!

    Check them out!

    10. Medieval Dynasty

    Medieval Dynasty
    • Year Released: 2020
    • Game Mode: Single-player
    • Developer: Toplitz Production

Medieval Dynasty follows a simple storyline – a knight must fight his way through enemy kingdoms to become the empire of the dynasty. The player starts as a nobody from a war-torn kingdom and plays through quests and conquest to climb up the social ladder.

Medieval Dynasty shares more or less similar gameplay just like M&B. However, it does involve more survival elements that makes things a bit more interesting. You have to keep your eye out for dehydration and hunger levels throughout. Battle hard, make sure you’re not out of food or water and you’re good to go.

    Stuff We Loved

    • The survival meters make it quite interesting at times
    • Move up the social ladder from an underrated knight to an emperor
    • Build your own castle!
    • Get favors from the King

    • Year Released: 2017
    • Game Mode: Single-player
    • Developer: Little Green Men Games

Starpoint is one of the top games like Mount and Blade Warband in that it’s an action RPG. But there’s a slight change of themes – you’re in space and not in the medieval era.

The player starts as a lone pilot in a small spaceship. He expands his influence by creating a strong fleet and forging alliances. The aim is to dominate the whole space using the resources at the player’s command.

Players can choose between two modes – Campaign and Conquest. The Conquest mode gives players the freedom to explore space. Fight against alien warships and conquer their territories. Starpoint also allows players to harvest materials from conquered territories.

    Stuff We Loved

    • Combines RPG and 4X features.
    • Expand your influence by conquering new territories
    • Use materials harvested from the conquered planets to build your fleet
    • Play an active role in the storyline or simply explore the space

    • Year Released: September 2020
    • Game Mode: Single and multiplayer
    • Developer: Paradox Development Studio

Crusader Kings III is the 3rd release of Paradox Development’s famous strategy RPG. Most strategy RPG players rate Crusader Kings III as one of the top ten games similar to Mount and Blade.

The player starts as a noble leader in the dynasty and leads it through war and peace. You strengthen your position by forging alliances and winning wars against dissident noblemen.

In Crusader Kings III, politics and religion determine peace or war. A player can make decisions that demand thinking, wrong ones can make your subjects revolt.

Similarly, the player can fuel a revolt in the opponent’s camp to make the opponent vulnerable to defeat. Crusader Kings III is respected for its complex but mature gameplay.

    Stuff We Loved

    • Expand your influence in the dynasty by forging alliances and waging wars.
    • Determine how you want to rule your subjects.
    • Meddle in the politics of other territories to your advantage.

Each weapon has a near-life effect. You can use your PC keyboard or mouse to control character position (foot-work) and weapons to give the thrilling feeling of a real melee.

Since death can happen so fast, you get more focused and battle hard to keep your character alive for as long as you can.

Learning new skills such as playing the lute, adds more enjoyment to the game. There’s nothing about Mordhau you won’t find interesting.

    Stuff We Loved

Henry vows to avenge his parents’ death by slaying Sir Markvart, the villain.

The gameplay on both M&B and KC:D are quite similar. For instance, you can press the X button to deliver lightning strikes to your opponents. Both games also have a steep learning curve.

Players must master sufficient skills to go through the levels. However, in the latter, the player starts as a novice who takes up different quests from NPCs to gain experience.

Henry can be trained to possess special abilities useful for combat. The player must also keep tabs on Henry’s hunger and thirst levels. The weapons’ effects are felt like in real-life combat.

Unlike other games like Mount and Blade Warband, the theme is set in the pirate era surrounding the Caribbean. Swords, knives, skulls, hats, and bones are some of the familiar items that will usher players into the world of pirates.

The player assumes the name Inigo Montoya, captain of the ship. Inigo aspires to be the leader of the deadliest gang of pirates. The player must gain experience by plundering ships and docks.

    • Developer: Lo-Fi Games

Rather than focusing on a linear story, Kenshi offers sandbox gameplay features that allow players to choose their path in the game. Kenshi is set in a post-post-apocalyptic world.

To survive, you can start out as a thief, stealing items needed for survival. Take up a new identity as a trader, healer, or any other character you desire. Recruit people into your gang to build a formidable crew.

The major feature of Kenshi is that it has no storyline. The player takes up a character and decides what to do with it.

The player may hone sword-fight skills to become a knight or dig into spells and magic to become a wizard. With the freedom to control the storyline, players can explore more and own the gameplay.

    • Open-ended gameplay where you determine your destiny as you go
    • Explore the game and enjoy ancient alchemy by preparing potions
    • Interact with other in-game characters to climb up the social ladder

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
    • Year Released: October 2006
    • Game Mode: Single and multiplayer
    • Developer: Arkane Studios

The Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is another action RPG game that has simpler gameplay than M&B. Players create characters and equip them with skills of their choice ranging from magic to combat.

Here, you use the environment against the opponent. For example, during combat, players may kick opponents off heights or into spikes!

DMOMM doesn’t follow the gameplay of the regular medieval RPGs but keeps players entertained, nonetheless. Its multiplayer function also adds to the fun.

To stay alive, you must have honed enough skills to kill your enemies.

Winning combat scenarios require timing, tactics, and a good combination of offensive and defensive strategies. You can learn archery to help deal with enemies from range or engage in melee combat instead.

    Stuff We Loved

    • Create your character and build its skills.
    • Win against opponents by taking advantage of the environment.
    • Join friends and other people in multiplayer fun action.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War (Definitive Edition)
    • Year Released: September 2017
    • Game Mode: Single and multiplayer
    • Developer: Monolith Productions, IUGO

Based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Middle Earth is another sequel of strategy RPGs that emerged from the LOTR trilogy.

The game is played from the third-person perspective. The player assumes the character Tailon.

Tailon already has some natural combat ability and skills. The player uses Tailon’s skills in combat to complete quests in the main game. There are other optional quests players can use to hone Tailon’s skills.

The game allows you to interact with followers who can be enlisted into your arms and trained on your orders.

You can purchase training orders in the Garrison using the in-game currency Mirian. During the war, you can assign your loyal followers to the battlefield.

The multiplayer mode allows you to engage your army in battle with those of other players.

    • It comes with a robust Nemesis System which allows players to assign superior skills to some of their followers.
    • Players can choose from main quests or miscellaneous quests to improve skills.
    • The multiplayer feature adds more fun to the game.

    • Game Mode: Single-player
    • Developer: CD Projekt Red

This is the 3rd release of the medieval-themed strategy RPG, popularly rated as one of the best games in 2021. This is also one of the most graphically demanding games.

Take up the character of Geralt of Rivia and get into action. The Witcher 3 has improved on its earlier versions to give an intriguing main campaign and two entertaining expansions.

The Witcher 3 employs war, magic, politics, and sex to keep control over kingdoms. Like the movie, players will find themselves in the middle of the drama.

Geralt can climb, swim, run, and walk. Give him armor to reduce damage from enemy attacks. He is equipped with two swords, bombs, and a crossbow.
