HBO Max Orders Harry Potter TV Series with Entirely New Cast

A new Harry Potter TV series is officially in the works at HBO Max. On April 12, during Warner Bros. Discovery’s presentation to press and investors, it was announced that HBO Max and Discovery+ would be combined into a new service called Max. Among the exciting news was the confirmation of a decade-long series based on the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling.

New Cast, Same Iconic Story

The new Max Original series will feature an entirely new cast from the films, bringing new life to the beloved story.

The plan is for each season of the show to focus on one book in the franchise.

Warner Bros. Discovery has described the series as a “decade-long” project, which means that fans can look forward to many years of discovering the Wizarding World in a new way.

Rowling and Heyman on Board

J.K. Rowling herself will be an executive producer on the new show, alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman, who produced the Harry Potter films, is also in talks to join the project as an executive producer.

Rowling expressed her commitment to the project and the importance of preserving the integrity of the books, saying, “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation, which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”

Years of Speculation Finally Over

The announcement brings an end to years of speculation on whether the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would make the transition to TV.
