The apple is one of the most useful foods in Minecraft. So if you’ve been looking for how to get apples in Minecraft, you are on the right page.
Apples are great for filling a rumbling belly—one apple gives you 4 hunger (2 full food icons!) and 2.4 saturation—but they’re also used to craft Golden Apples, which can cure Zombie Villagers and attract Piglins.
This guide explains how to get apples in Minecraft as efficiently as possible.
How to Get Apples in Minecraft
There are many ways to get apples in Minecraft.
You can harvest them from apple trees and oak trees, trade to get them, steal them from villagers, and even grow your own. Read more about these methods below.
How to Get Apples from Oak Trees in Minecraft

This is the easiest way to get apples in Minecraft, as Oak trees can be found in almost all biomes in the Overworld.
When you destroy all the log blocks of an oak tree, its leaves will start to disappear. Each oak leaf has a 0.5% chance of dropping an apple.
That might not sound very high, but each oak tree contains roughly 50 oak leaves, so there’s about a 25% chance an oak tree will drop at least one apple.
Dark oak trees have even more leaves (about 115), so there’s around a 57.5% chance a dark oak tree will drop at least one apple. Typically, the larger an oak tree, the more leaves it has, so the higher your chance of getting apples.
You can improve your odds of getting an apple by destroying the oak tree with a fortune-enchanted tool: 0.556% at Fortune I, 0.625% at Fortune II, and 0.833% at Fortune III.
We know that destroying log blocks is boring work, so you may be tempted to take a torch to the tree and burn it down. Don’t do that — apples don’t fall from burnt oak leaves.
Get Them From Chests
Apples are a common item in chests. Bedrock Edition has slightly higher odds than the Java Edition of Minecraft. You can find the chance table below:
Location | Chest Type | # of Apples | Probability (%)
Bedrock Edition | Java Edition
Bonus chest | Regular chest | 1–2 | 100% | 83.8% |
Village | Weaponsmith’s chest | 1–3 | 59.8% | 59.8% |
Plains house chest | 1–5 | 74.2% | 59.8%
Stronghold | Altar chest | 1–3 | 32.3% | 33.2% |
Storeroom chest | 1–3 | 40% | 47.5%
Igloo | Regular chest | 1–3 | 70.4% | 70.4% |
Trading with Villagers

Apples can be obtained through trading with farmer villagers. When meeting a farmer villager, there’s a 50–66.7% chance they will trade you 4 apples for 1 emerald. Not bad!
Note that once you’ve bought apples from a villager, you’ll have to wait a while for them to restock.
Steal Them from Villagers

This one is for all the misfits, rebels, and troublemakers who want something a little unorthodox: you can steal apples from villagers.
When you sneak into a villager’s home, there’s a chance that the chests inside will contain apples. In fact, there’s a 70% chance you’ll find an apple in a villager’s chest.
Honestly, we don’t know how you can sleep at night. Probably on a bed of apples.
