Legendary actor Jackie Chan has opened up about why he has never appeared in the hit movie franchise The Expendables. Despite being invited to join the star-studded cast, Jackie Chan has always declined to appear in the films. In a recent interview, the Rush Hour actor revealed his reasons for not taking part.
Jackie Chan stated that he never actually refused Sylvester Stallone’s invitation to join the cast, but he felt that the franchise already had too many Hollywood legends in the movie.
The actor admitted that he wouldn’t have minded if it was just a one-on-one battle between Stallone and him. However, the inclusion of other actors like Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, and Jean-Claude Van Damme made him back out of the franchise.
‘The Expendables’ brings veteran actors on the same team
The Expendables franchise is famous for bringing together every veteran action actor on the same team. The franchise’s star-studded cast of veteran names such as Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren has been loved worldwide for its action scenes and nostalgia.
Although Jackie Chan had been offered to star in the two sequels of The Expendables films, he did not make an appearance.
With The Expendables 4 currently in production, Jackie Chan revealed that he had been asked a fourth time to make an appearance.
However, the actor found the format of the movies boring and redundant. Jackie Chan stated that there was no point in making an appearance for barely 5 minutes, and therefore he refused the format of the franchise.
Fans want Jackie Chan in the show
While Jackie Chan’s point is valid, fans would have loved to see him make a brief appearance to show off some of his martial arts moves and fist-bump every actor on set.
Nevertheless, it is ultimately up to Jackie Chan to decide what roles he wants to take on. The actor is already considering a sequel to an already-established franchise that made him and Owen Wilson famous in the early 2000s.
In the interview, Jackie Chan also mentioned that he has been in talks about a sequel to the 2000s famous movies Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights.
The franchise became so successful that it essentially painted Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson as notable actors who would be a great duo together.
The actor has been planning Shanghai Dawn and is just waiting for the right people to hear so that the sequel might be possible.
Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights are known for their martial arts action, humor, and adventurous plots. They are popular movies that still hold up well today.
A sequel to the franchise would give Jackie Chan and Wilson a chance to reunite on screen and give audiences the nostalgia they crave.
