With the release of Beyond Light, we saw the end of an era in Destiny 2. Stasis was introduced and plans for the new era were unveiled.
But, some of us are still playing the old expansions and getting people up to speed on the events that transpired before Eramis and her House of Salvation came and froze an entire planet.
For the new player who’s still knee-deep in the previous expansion, here is a guide for the quest Memory of Sai Mota in Destiny 2.
Memory of Sai Mota
Before our Guardian ever stepped foot on the moon, there was a great war between the Hive, ancient creatures governed by a violent Sword Logic.
With their master, prince Crota, they burrowed deep into the rock. As soon as word of this reached the Vanguard, however, an expedition was launched to rid the Moon of the Hive.
However, history often likes to take darker turns.
Among the many dead Guardians who were a part of the massacre that took place on Mare Ibrium, one would take center stage as the catalyst for a tale or tragic revenge; Wei Ning.
The powerful Titan saw her end at the hands of Crota’s sword, and her lover, Eriana-3 of the Praxic Order, decided to avenge Wei right then and there.
With a fireteam consisting of Hunters Eris Morn, Sai Mota, and Omar Agah, lone foolhardy Titan Vell Tarlowe, and fellow Warlock Toland.
One by one they all fell, the first being Vell and the final Eriana, but not Eris. The Bladedancer Sai would see her end at the Pit of Heresy beneath the surface of the Moon to Omnigul, the Will of Crota, after being resurrected 43 times by her Ghost, Yuga.
Memory of Sai Mota starts after you’re done with the Shadowkeep campaign with the Guardian banishing the nightmares of the First Crota Fireteam, invoking the memories of Eris.
Lunar Spelunker

To start off the quest, one must obtain the weekly bounty called “Lunar Spelunker” off of Eris. To do this, simply walk up to where Eris is and pick it up from her available bounties.
The bounty details completing three lost sectors and collecting the contents of the chests associated with them. Although you don’t have to do them in order, here is how to complete each.
The lost sector deal is simple, you go to three of the four K1 lost sectors, namely K1 Communion, Crew Quarters, and Logistics.
Defeating the bosses in each of these lost sectors nets you a point towards the completion of the objective upon which you get a Firewall Data Fragment.
Revelation

You’ll need to take the Firewall Data Fragment to the final K1 lost sector, the K1 Revelation. Now, you can skip all the enemies in here as they are inconsequential to the objective, and head straight to the final crystal segment of the lost sector.
There, you’ll find a broken ledge on the right, which will lead to a bunker. Opening the bunker door will use up the Firewall Data Fragment, and you can go inside and claim the necklace of Sai Mota.
Reforging the Necklace
Your job is not done here, however, as the quest will require you to collect the necklace’s scraps to refabricate it. Simply go and kill major (yellow bar) enemies anywhere on the moon, and before you know it, the necklace will be complete.
A major enemy will net you 2 scraps and a boss will net you 3. Mind you, the quest requires you to kill them with Arc abilities only.
Reuniting Old Friends
After the necklace is completed, you then travel back to Eris through the portal into the Enduring Abyss and talk to her (you need to hear her out) and collect the Machine Gun, A Fine Memorial, and the Exotic Quest for the Deathbringer. The quest is now complete.
Eris recognizes that it was Sai who made the necklace and realizes that the phantoms that she has been seeing are not the members of the First Crota Fireteam but demonized and violations of their memories. She accepts your gift, and thanks you for it, telling you that Sai is finally at peace now.
Conclusion
We hope this Memories of Sai Mota guide helped you complete the quest and gave some context about the narrative that belies this simple endeavor.
Sai Mota’s sacrifice was not in vain, however, as we go on to defeat and kill the Will of Crota in a strike mission called The Scarlet Keep.
Sai was a talented, reserved, and intelligent Hunter, with a capacity for great violence. She spoke little except when making toasts, as is mentioned by Eris.
Sai was one of the earliest members of the First Crota Fireteam and taught Eris how to make beads with a knife. It is shown that Eris and the Bladedancer shared quite a close bond.
