The nostalgic Mortal Kombat 2 source code leaks and shows a scrapped character — yet, no one is talking about this leakality?!
A YouTube video reveals the source code for Mortal Kombat 2 and hidden stuff, such as cut moves, fatalities, and more. The original 1992 Mortal Kombat is one of the most influential fighting games of all time, and it was partly responsible, along with contemporary games like Doom and Night Trap, for the creation of the ESRB due to controversy over its representations of violence.
Fans are kinda disappointed with Mortal Kombat
Regardless of the backlash, the franchise perseveres with 11 more mainstream entries and countless spin-offs. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a mobile game, will release this year, giving players another chance to pit their skills against some of gaming’s most iconic villains. Many fans consider the first games in the series—which included bloody deaths as a trademark—to be the best of the series. Several decades later, it appears that one of the episodes had more to offer.
How did the leak come out?
According to insiders, the source code for Mortal Kombat 2 leaked in a 2.5-hour video on YouTube. The video shows some parts that don’t seem to have made it into the final product. Pegasus Kid has broken down some of these newly found assets on Twitter. These include updated animations for many characters, cut stage decorations, a Scorpion sprite with blue skin, fake footage of Johnny Cage ripping out his opponent’s throat, and more.

Nevertheless, the franchise is still going strong
It’s hard to believe that the original Mortal Kombat has been around for 30 years, especially considering the series’ reputation for extreme violence. But the numbers speak for themselves, and even though the developer keeps releasing new games, many fans will always cherish their memories of the originals.
