A significant hint about the launch window of the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 has been dropped by a major image sensor manufacturer and long-time Nintendo supplier.
This revelation aligns with recent rumors suggesting that Nintendo is shifting its focus to the Switch 2 following the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
A New Console on the Horizon
The Nintendo Switch, while not renowned for its power, has been a popular device since its launch six years ago. However, its age is starting to show, and many fans have been eagerly awaiting a successor. The release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which didn’t push the boundaries of the Switch’s hardware, further emphasized the need for a new console.
According to Chinese media outlet MoneyDJ, PixArt Imaging, a Taiwan-based CMOS image sensor manufacturer, is expecting the launch of a “Japanese game console” in early 2024. Given that PixArt Imaging has been supplying Nintendo with components since 2006, it’s plausible that this new console is the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Timing Makes Sense
The timing of this potential release aligns with previous rumors about the Switch 2. A report from May suggested that the new console wouldn’t launch before spring 2024. If these rumors are accurate, Nintendo could be planning to debut the Switch 2 in late March, around the seventh anniversary of the original Switch’s launch.
While console manufacturers typically favor the holiday season for new hardware launches, the original Switch was released in March 2017. Therefore, the idea of the Switch 2 launching around the same time doesn’t seem far-fetched, but is the new Switch successor coming as we anticipate?
These aren’t the only recent indications that Nintendo may be debuting new gaming hardware soon. A leaked Microsoft document from mid-July also suggested that the Switch 2 is coming in 2024.
