Starfield is audacious, mountainous, and daunting.
Bethesda’s created a space RPG, arguably the most in-demand gaming genre since 2001, that brings in everything we love about RPGs, tuned to outdo every other RPG out there and then boosted with futuristic gameplay mechanics and cinematic graphics.
I’m looking forward to this epic. Seems like Bethesda’s conjured up Starfield with an eye to the upcoming decade of gaming.
I’ve tried to cover the key aspects of Starfield in full. But right now, I’ll be concentrating heavily on just one.
Here’s all about the Starfield 4 main constellation companions I know so far to help you choose your Starfield crew.
Who are the 4 Main Constellation Characters in Starfield?
The 4 ‘main’ Starfield constellation companions in Starfield, as Todd Howard described the game mechanics – are Sarah Morgan, Barrett, Sam Coe and VASCO.
I’ll be doing a deep dive into these characters based on all available ‘official’ information right now hours away from full release. But I’ll be adding on a lot more including specific character buffs and initial best uses or strategies for each character soon.
Sarah Morgan
Pros
- Experienced and knowledgeable about the galaxy
- Strong leader
- Skilled in combat and negotiation
Cons:
- Can be a bit bossy
- Not always the most patient
- Can be a bit cold and distant
A former member of the United Colonies Navy, Sarah is a key member of the constellation and may just be the most important one as well.
She’s an explorer so you’ll be needing her in your crew if you’re thinking about exploring the thousand worlds and more on Starfield.
Barrett
Pros:
- Skilled in combat
- Loyal and trustworthy
- Funny and charismatic
Cons:
- Can be a bit reckless
- Not always the most intelligent
- Can be a bit impulsive
Barrett is your combat man. An ex-member of the Freestar Collective, he is characterized as a loyal, skilled, and trustworthy gun.
He’s a great pick if you’re into the idea of shooting transports down for loot or getting onboard to do just that man-to-man.
Sam Coe
Pros:
- Skilled in science and engineering
- Intelligent and resourceful
- Kind and compassionate
Cons:
- Can be a bit naive
- Not always the most assertive
- Can be a bit shy
Sam Coe is your research scholar and the one with the brains and research buffs. But he’s an asset in combat as well although we don’t know yet if that’s for hand-to-hand or space dogfighting.
He’s a must-have in your crew if you want to concentrate on the strategy part for late-game advantages and future Starfield expansions.
VASCO
Pros:
- Loyal and friendly
- Intelligent and helpful
- An asset in combat
Cons:
- Not as skilled in combat as a human companion
- Can be a bit slow and clumsy
- Can be a bit talkative too
VASCO is a robot with long extended limbs for various tasks, including combat. No skill stars or traits but he surely comes in handy and is probably a great no.2 Constellation companion choice.
VASCO can be a great asset if you’re more into mining planets dry and building up resources for the long haul given that Starfield might secretly have an exciting deep in-game economy.
All Starfield Companions
IMO Starfield also includes outposts that you need to defend so running a big crew across worlds is something I am looking forward to and so should you if that’s your brew.
This means Bethesda has built a foundation to build key NPCs to add to ship or outpost crew. We might even get NPC-specific canons and story arcs as content expansions leading to established ruling systems (we already have unique cities and clan formats).
I’ll keep adding to this list as we keep clocking the hours on Starfield and find out more companions and key NPCs including their stat buffs.
How To Choose Starfield Companions
Although it’s too early to get this right, since we do have a starting idea, I can lay down a few simple ground rules –
What’s your playstyle?
Starfield is already a lot more than an RPG, it’s also an RTS and a deep strategy game. It is Skyrim in space with an advanced game engine and game system.
Your playstyle will define how you interact with Starfield, and since we have procedural generation, how Starfield will interact with you.
So, if you’re about combat and dogfighting, you need a fast or big (or both) ship and a combat-oriented crew that’s all about offense.
Or if you’re into the long-haul strategy of it, get Starfield Companions who’ll boost research and navigation.
Who’re you?
If you’re a true RPG fam, you’ll be spending some serious time contemplating your dialogue options. If not, you can just gamble your way through and hope for some fun.
Again, Starfield will pick up on it. Procedural generation also means many story paths and side missions. Just so, choose Starfield companions who complement you as the central character. That’s the best way to get the best out of the game or so it seems.
What’s the best thing about Starfield so far, for you?
Out of the main companions, it’s easy to assume that Sarah Morgan gets the highest involvement in the core storyline. She does get most of the dialogues on the Gameplay Deep Dive, in the Constellation section and beyond it. So, if you want to play the core story first before reruns along the branches, choose Sarah Morgan.
That’s all I have now and frankly, that’s all there is so far on the Starfield 4 Main Constellation Companions.
Check in after the 6th for Starfield walkthroughs with each companion. Sarah Morgan first ofc.
