Some players may think Normal-type Pokemon are rather boring amongst the crowd of Dragon and Fire types.
With that being said, there are plenty of fantastic, competitively viable Normal types out there, so you need to understand every Normal type weakness and strength if you want to be a Pokemon master.
For the Lazy
I’ve thrown together a quick-reference chart for Normal-type Pokemon down at the bottom for those that don’t feel like reading. So if you just need a quick reference, scroll on down.
Normal-Type Pokemon Weakness (Defense)
Normal type Pokemon are actually pretty interesting because they only have one defensive weakness, and that is fighting. Fighting-type moves will do double damage to Normal-type Pokemon.
- Fighting
There aren’t very many Normal / Psychic or Normal / Bug-type Pokemon to even out this disadvantage, so you’ll want to avoid fighting a Fighting-type Pokemon with your Normal Pokemon.
Normal-Type Pokemon Weakness (Offense)
It’s pretty easy to remember the offensive weaknesses of Normal-type Pokemon since there are only about three. The following types will only take half damage from a Normal-type attack:
- Rock
- Steel
- Ghost (immune)
Normal Ghost-Type Weakness
Pokemon has a very interesting mechanic with Normal and Ghost-type Pokemon. Normal-type moves cannot affect Ghost-type Pokemon and vice versa.
Normal type Pokemon can learn Miracle Eye in order to get around this weakness, or you can find a Pokemon with the Scrappy hidden ability.
Normal-Type Pokemon Strength (Defense & Offense)
Normal type Pokemon do not deal extra damage to any Pokemon type. On the other hand, they also do not take extra damage from any Pokemon types.
This makes them great tanks, which is why many competitive players will opt for Pokemon like Snorlax and Blissey. And that’s about it!
